WHY SERVE AS A YOUTH VOLUNTEER?
People volunteer for things all of the time for many different reasons. Some volunteer out of an obligation they feel because their own child is involved. Others want to be involved in what their kid is doing just to protect or babysit them. Still some are trying to merely stay busy because they have an unhealthy need to constantly feel useful or needed.
And then some sense the leading of the Lord to get in over their heads and let Him guide them in service. These are the volunteers that we seek to serve our youth. Serving in general should be a continuation of your worship and enjoyment of Christ. A lot of times, fear of the unknown stops us from pursing the life that Christ has for us. If you feel like God desires for you to serve Him by journeying through life with students or helping to create safe places for them to experience Christ, then simply obey. Listen to what God is asking of you and do not let fear, doubt, or anything else stop you from the blessings that are in store for you.
It is His Power we rely on (2nd Corinthians 12:9) to allow us to encourage students to shine like stars in a crooked and depraved generation (Philippians 2:15).
If you desperately love Jesus and want to honor Him each day and don’t mind sharing life with a bunch of obnoxious, hormonal and hurting teenagers – you are who we need. None of us are in this alone – we are called to serve alongside each other as we strive to minister to students and meet them where they are. None of us have it all figured out – we are all constantly growing, learning, and moving towards the beauty found in relationships with each other and Christ.
In the end, we serve in youth ministry not for ourselves but by the strength of Christ and because of what He has done and is continuing to do in our lives and the lives of the students He entrusts to us. Will you join us?
