How to Get Involved

HOW DO I EVEN BEGIN TO GET INVOLVED?

Pray

• Seek God’s guidance on if you should be serving in this ministry.

• Ask Him for specific direction on what you can passionately be involved in.

• As you seek the Lord, remember that it is in Him that we live and move and have our being (Acts 17:28) and so it must be more about Him than you.

Ask Questions

• Grab one of the few hundred volunteers currently serving in youth ministry and ask them about their experience.

•  This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. , the Youth Volunteer Coordinator, is always available to meet so we can answer your specific questions about the ministry and any concerns you may have.

Check Fathom Out

• Come to a few Fathom activities and events. Meet some of our students and other adults and see what it is really like.

• Continue to check out our website and look at past event pictures, videos, and the random chaos of youth ministry.

Get Your Paperwork

• All volunteer youth leaders must complete a Fathom Youth Volunteer Application - download one by clicking here.

• A background check is done on all adults who desire to serve in the youth ministry at Asbury to ensure the safety of our students and the ministry as a whole.

• The information on the application will enable us to suggest appropriate areas of ministry that will fit well with your gifts, talents and desires – so be honest and be thorough!

• Turn in your application to Mary Beth and setup an interview with Peter.

Interview

• Setup a one-on-one meeting with  This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. , the Director of Youth Ministries. Email is the best way to contact him. This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

• Peter will talk with you about your application, experiences, and where you feel called to serve.

• Ask questions and ensure we know what we need to about you to better place you in ministry.

Get To It!

• Once approved by Peter, you and Mary Beth can meet to go over current opportunities for service and how you can jump right in.

• There is nothing like youth ministry. You will learn more in your first six months of being ‘in the thick of it’ than you would from reading youth ministry literature for six years. So roll up your sleeves and get to it!

Training

• Training is designed to equip and educate Fathom Volunteers with the knowledge and tools necessary to effectively minister to and develop relationships with students.

• Volunteers who work directly with students are encouraged to attend at least two training sessions per year.

• Specific training sessions will offer new techniques, ideas and youth ministry skills to continually challenge and grow our abilities to minister to youth.
